In collaboration with the Municipality of Sesto San Giovanni - once the leading Italian industrial city - which has submitted a nomination proposal to be inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Listin the Continuing Cultural Landscape category, CS&L Consorzio Sociale intends to carry out the project CITIZENS AND DESIGNERS FOR THE REBIRTH OF INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE (working title) by participating in the 2015 call for proposals for the CREATIVE EUROPE - CULTURES Sub Programme “Support for European cooperation projects” - Smaller scale cooperation projects.

The project intends to promote:

  • european mobility of young architects, designers and other creative professionals in relation to objectives aimed at enhancing, regenerating and re-using a series of European Twentieth Century industrial heritage monuments, identified in three European cities (the city of Sesto San Giovanni plus two other cities still to be identified);

  • the involvement of citizens in these objectives of enhancing, regenerating and re-using the monuments, paying particular attention to involving the communities living on the outskirts of cities and social groups which are usually excluded from the cultural production and urban regeneration processes;

  • through the active role of young European creative professionals, specialized in participatory planning processes that are open to citizens, the development of early concept-layout plans related to the proposals for the enhancement, regeneration and re-use of industrial heritage monuments identified in the three cities that will be selected. The early concept-layout plans, which will emerge from the various workshops, will become a “catalogue of ideas” for the subsequent choices of local authorities (Municipalities) regarding the enhancement, regeneration and re-use of the monuments.

  • the realization, in the three European cities, of three exhibitions that will illustrate the processes and results of the participatory planning workshops;

  • the dissemination within the European Union of information and material on the project, as well as the processes and results of the participatory planning workshops, via a web portal and a printed publication;
